IMPORTANT NOTE OF INTEREST:
In 2012 Bahrain will be returning to its original track layout after an experiment with the ‘Endurance layout’ which increased lap times by 20 seconds, in 2010. The 2011 race has been postponed/cancelled?
 
F1 first came to the Bahrain International Circuit in 2004. The newly built Sakhir circuit is considered to be the centre of motor sport in the Gulf. Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari received the chequered flag to win the Bahrain Grand Prix, the first FIA Formula One World Championship event held in the Middle East.
 
Don’t expect to see the traditional spraying of champagne by the winners; after the F1 Grand Prix in Bahrain the drivers celebrate with non-alcoholic rosewater (although alcohol is not actually banned in Bahrain).
